Special Offer for Enforcement Officers
The government, through the Public Service Department (JPA), has introduced a new and more competitive service scheme for the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) starting from 1 July. This scheme targets existing enforcement officers from various agencies to join the AKPS. The Director-General of AKPS, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, stated that this special offer includes two annual salary increments, an additional RM200, as well as the retention of seniority and overtime allowances.
He emphasized that this offer is the best service scheme ever provided for officer transfers. "Therefore, I see no reason why monthly income should be the cause of poor service quality. This time, the government has made a decision, so I think it is good and they should join the AKPS," he told reporters after a friendly session and inspection of the AKPS First/2026 trainee registration session at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) in Segamat.
Intensive Training for the Pioneer Group
Mohd Shuhaily announced that 478 trainees from the first group of AKPS will undergo three months of intensive training in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). The training includes physical and mental endurance, as well as exposure to legal aspects enforced by various agencies such as the Immigration Department, Royal Customs Department of Malaysia, Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), and the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS).
"Three months is quite short for us to instill everything in them, but it aims to build physical and mental strength for their future frontline roles. Discipline is the core to preventing border leaks, so this issue needs to be tightened further so that all instructions can be fully understood and followed," he emphasized.
Placement at RTS Link
The pioneer group of AKPS will be fully stationed at the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link facilities connecting Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru, and Woodlands, Singapore. They will be responsible for managing the new entry point. Mohd Shuhaily emphasized the importance of early preparation, as the RTS Link is expected to start operating fully on 1 January 2027. The trial operation training at the entry point will begin as early as October this year.
Operational Achievements of AKPS
Regarding the agency's operational performance, Mohd Shuhaily revealed that AKPS recorded a seizure value of nearly RM50 million up to May this year, compared to RM82 million recorded last year. This shows the agency's commitment to combating illegal activities at the national borders.
