Volvo EX60 and EX90 Now Support 'Plug and Charge' — No Login, No Card
Owners of EX60 and EX90 can now charge at large-scale stations without opening an app, entering a code, or swiping a card. Just plug the charger into the car's port — the system identifies the vehicle through an embedded digital certificate, authorizes the charging session, and silently processes the payment. No stops, no interface errors, no need to register on multiple charging platforms.
In Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia — where public charging stations are still unevenly distributed and registration procedures often differ between operators — this feature is not just a convenience. It eliminates one of the main psychological barriers: the fear of getting lost in an unfriendly system.
Power, Range & Built-in Technology
EX60 comes with a single electric motor of 408 hp and a range of up to 500 km (WLTP). EX90 offers a front-wheel drive (FWD) or four-wheel drive (AWD) configuration, with an AI-based safety system that includes night pedestrian detection and cross-traffic collision prevention.
Both use Volvo's dedicated EV SPA2 platform, equipped with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, Bowers & Wilkins voice system, and full support for over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Fast charging up to 250 kW allows the EX60 to add 100 km of range in 7 minutes — and now, all of this is enabled with just one plug.
Launch in Nusantara: Not Official Yet, But Already Tested
There has been no official announcement about the launch dates of EX60 and EX90 in Malaysia, Thailand, or Indonesia. However, Volvo has been conducting field tests in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok since early 2024, including integration with local charging operators such as Teras Teknologi and Plug-in Energy.
Global prices start from USD $50,000 (EX60) to USD $70,000 (high-end EX90 model). In Malaysia, import tax incentives and road tax exemptions for EVs, along with public charging subsidies in some states, can lower the actual ownership cost — especially when combined with the automatic charging accuracy that reduces waiting time and human error.
Why This Matters for Nusantara Users
'Plug and Charge' is not just a technical feature. It is a signal that EVs can be used like regular cars — without additional rituals. For first-time users in cities like Jakarta or Penang, where charging stations may be located in shopping mall lobbies or beside highways, the ability to start charging in 3 seconds without a phone or card is a real change.
Volvo also offers an 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty and scheduled service via the app — a combination that strengthens confidence in the still-developing EV ecosystem in this region.
The Future of Charging That You Don't Have to Think About
With 'Plug and Charge', Volvo is not only improving the convenience of charging. It shifts the focus from *how* to charge to *what* can be done with the car — from daily commutes to long trips. For Nusantara, where the decision to switch to EVs is often determined by perceived convenience — not specifications — this step may be more impactful than kilometer numbers or horsepower.
